A New Type of Delivery

A project entailing more than just a delivery!

Let’s Talk Loco/Auto-motives

A 1970 CUDA which stood abandoned for 36 years in a backyard was fully restored within two years. Fracht Zürich was asked to handle the vehicle delivery for Top Auto Oerlikon, one of our customers overseas. Due to the uniqueness of the car, which was featured on the discover channel TV Show ‘Graveyard Carz’, the shipper actually loaded the vehicle themselves.

A Wave of Change

The philosophy at Fracht has always been to grow organically. Our company globally as well as in the U.S. has seen remarkable growth in offices, expansion into new regions and expertise and developments in new industries. In just the last 6 years, the U.S. offices have doubled in employees, which brings Houston to second in size within the Fracht World.

POLYTRA BECOMES MEMBER OF THE FRACHT GROUP OF COMPANIES

With the sale of Polytra to the Swiss Fracht, Baron Maurice Velge will put an end to an era in the maritime and transport sector. The 82-year-old baron will now focus more on the chairs with his name on European values.

Following the acquisition of Polytra by Fracht, Flows had a conversation with the former owner, baron Maurice Velge, and his successor Rudolf Reisdorf, CEO and chairman-owner of Fracht.
“Since Fracht is also active in project cargo and forwarding, I knew the reputation of the company,” says Velge. “For personal reasons, I went looking for a buyer. Within the family there was no interest for Polytra. I had to find a solution for the future of the company. Of the candidates I knew, Fracht seemed to be the best solution, “he explains.

Complementary
“Both companies are extremely complementary. Polytra is active as an industrial forwarding agent for a number of large chemical companies such as BASF, Inovyn, INEOS, etc. It also has a solid project division with a strong network in Africa for the mining sector. In Katanga we have five offices with forty employees. We also have a setup in Tansania and Zambia. From Congo we transport to Durban or Dar-es-Salaam by rail or road. In Dar-es-Salaam we are one of the largest freight forwarders. All of this is very interesting for Fracht, which has almost 100 branches in four continents – including Australia, North and South America and the Far East – and is developing in Africa, “explains Velge.
Not only in terms of activities, both companies fit together well. “We met a few times and there was immediately a climate of mutual trust. Negotiations were very professional and very open and quickly led to an agreement. I am very happy. This is a good decision for our customers who are looking forward to doing business as before. I knew that Rudolf Reisdorf uses the same principles and values in his company. This is a perfect match. I have spent a lot of time and energy in this company and am happy that staff and customers are in good hands, “Velge emphasizes.

‘Match in heaven’
Rudolf Reisdorf speaks of a ‘match in heaven’ when he talks about the complementarity and the similarities between the two companies. “We share the same philosophy within a family environment. We know how to treat people and give them responsibility. I am delighted with the people and the management of Polytra. From day one it was a Fracht company. It is only regrettable that I did not get to know Maurice Velge before. Such a deal is only possible between family businesses, “Reisdorf emphasizes.

Antwerp
With the takeover of Polytra, he also has his own office in Antwerp. “Antwerp is our natural harbor. I have good memories of the city where I used to work for one year, some decades ago. Together with Polytra, which has a strong reputation in the field of difficult projects in Africa, we will continue our development there. There is no specific Fracht “hunter strategy”. We are simply looking for synergies that make the network stronger. We do everything with our own means, this gives us the chance to move quick and flexible, when an opportunity comes up” Reisdorf concludes, this in addition to organic growth.

Chair chairs baron Maurice Velge
For Baron Velge, the transfer of Polytra to Fracht means the end of its activities in the maritime and transport sector. “I’ll keep an eye on things for a while. I still feel young. Do not think that from now on I will only deal with bridge and golf. I am now going to spend a bit more time on the project that I launched in 2016 to boost European society and redefine European values. A chair was named after me both at the University of Antwerp (UA) and at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL). The idea is to turn the work of the academics into practice. Among others, Herman Van Rompuy supports this initiative. In addition, I remain a member of the Continental Lines board “, Velge outlines the interpretation of the post-Polytra era. Velge also owns two wine chateaux in France.

“The history of Polytra-Fracht looks successful”, closes Velge and thanks for the interview.

CargoX and Fracht AG mix tradition and blockchain to reshape the future of global trade

BILL OF LADING ON BLOCKCHAIN

(Hong Kong / Basel – 24 July 2018) – CargoX, the producer of electronic blockchain-based Smart Bill of Lading solution, has signed a partnership agreement with Fracht AG, the independent, Swiss, family-owned company with over 100 offices and more than 1200 employees. This move gives Fracht AG the means to use the CargoX Smart B/L with its business customers.

The innovative CargoX Smart B/L platform lets companies issue and handle original bills of lading on the Ethereum blockchain network, facilitating the digital transfer of the ownership of the bill of lading and thus the related assets from issuer, to shipper, to consignee, to release agent. This creates the first fully digital, paperless, and secure original bill of lading solution on earth.

As service providers we must be able to ’step into our customer’s shoes’ and impartially choose the best available options. We have made various tests on the use of blockchain in shipping and forwarding and the Bill of Lading is exceptionally suited, being a document of value that exchanges hands and needs to be secure.
We always had the opinion that there would be a revolution in the digitalization of shipping, in communication and documentation, and therefore we thoroughly studied all the different aspects of digital online development. Then along came blockchain technology and we began studying the potential uses, apart from Bitcoin, which can be looked at critically, whether it really makes sense or whether it will just be a footnote in history. But look at the internet bubble two decades ago. It busted, but the internet still is ‘the thing’. Similar stories can happen with Bitcoin and blockchain. Blockchain is ‘the thing’, but in our opinion also only for some uses and not for everything in the world. It is very good for trade and one of the very best uses, if not the best, is the use for the Bill of Lading.
We are by far not the only ones that have come to the same conclusion. Others are bigger but they therefore often lack the speed and flexibility. This is why start-ups and smaller companies have success in the world. And while we are older and a little bit bigger, our philosophy and mentality have remained all these years just like a start-up and this makes us successful. And now we teamed up with, in our opinion, the best start-up, the one that will bring in blockchain in shipping and in the Bill of Lading – it is called CargoX,”

emphasized Ruedi Reisdorf, CEO and 2nd generation owner of the company.

Fracht is one of the companies we look up to, as they prove that change is the only constant in business. They are always looking at how to adapt to business, where to find new opportunities, and how to always keep in mind the global common good. It is very similar to the idea how we designed our solution – by looking at the whole picture and anticipating what the future will bring! Not just profits, but optimal workflows, new technologies, and a multitude of benefits, from speedier and safer document ownership transfer, to optimised financial flow. CargoX is proud to have Fracht AG as partner!

said Stefan Kukman, CEO and founder of CargoX.

FRACHT worldwide, mourns passing away of its founder and leader

Ruedi Reisdorf senior

 10.2.1927 – 17.8.2016

His son and successor Ruedi Reisdorf jun. writes:

Dear friends,

I have the sad duty to inform you, that my father did not want to continue to live and died peacefully after a short stay in the hospital.

He can look back to a long, successful and beautiful life and also if we count the last days, there are few persons only, who enjoyed such a wonderful and healthy life.

And at the end, he even had his own will – as usual – that he wanted to leave. If you want so, it is the person, we knew to his last minute.

He has asked us for a small and simple funeral, he did not want to have a huge gathering. We will of course also respect this last wish.

Just stop somewhere, sometime for a short moment and think about the good times you had with him. Like this, you and he will have the most of it.

We will keep the best memories of him and his mind will continue to live on in our company Fracht AG.

He sends you his heartiest greetings from his new domicile in heaven with the best thanks for everything.

With very best regards, Dear friends, and the best wishes from my father, who peacefully passed away.

Ruedi Reisdorf jun.

FRACHT TAKES AFRICA SERIOUS

FRACHT FWO agreed to a very close co-operation with Polytra in Belgium, who are one of the few specialists for these countries with own offices under experienced European management in these countries. Expanding its reach to handle project cargo this is an important move into a territory so far not much covered by the FWO network.

« hese countries are now politically stable and the views for development are rather positive. There are quite a few energy, mining and infrastructural projects, where we would like to participate together with Polytra » the CEO, Ruedy Reisdorf jun stated.

The present focus lies on the  3 countries Zambia,Congo and Tansania , but  business in Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya, Uganda, Ruanda, Burundi is welcome, too.

.However the risk in the countries Nigeria, Angola, Mocambique  is still  estimated high.  These countries have serious problems due to the low oil prices and the boom, which they were enjoying collapsed into a very serious recession. These have been very difficult countries logisticswise in the past, and they have rather become worse than better due to this. And no special focus is given to these markets for the time being.
